Abstract

The electrification of products and systems requires the transmission of power through a network of wires/cables. The efficient grouping of these wires/cables and associated components is called a wire harness. Such wire harnesses are present in home appliances, automotive systems, electronics, and other devices.

At UL, the Wiring Harness Traceability Program monitors cables/wires as they move from the manufacturing plant to the harness producer and into the final assembly line. Ensuring that wire harnesses (which are custom products) meet safety standards necessitates a review process by an engineer which is both challenging and time consuming.

By employing AI, UL was able to automate this assessment process and give our clients 24/7 access to an online tool which allows them to immediately find out about their product eligibility.
